Other Relevant Experience:

2008/2009 Royal Albert Hall ‘Tosca New Writing Project’ and 'Carmen New Writing Project' – Developing and running a writing workshop for ex-offenders from Edmonton’s Youth Offending Team’s list and The Irish Traveller Womens' Group in Ealing. Breaking down and re-working the operas into a half hour contemporary play written by the young people. The production was then performed as a rehearsed reading at the Royal Albert Hall, directed by Phil Daniels.  

1998 – present Workshop Leader/ Devisor – Developing and running drama based workshops on a freelance basis for companies like Charlton Athletic Against Racism, Greenwich and Lewisham YPT, The National Youth Theatre, The Half Moon, The London Bubble and other Arts Council and private schemes. These have included spoken word, film, writing and performance based workshops.

 
1999 - present Director - Theatre and short films. Also with large scale environmental and community projects, including a physical theatre presentation for Her Majesty The Queen in 2005.


1997 - present Spanner in the Works - Artistic Director: Small scale production and workshop company (Theatre, Audio, Film). Working in schools, hospitals, museums etc.


1995 - 1997 Motivation Cassettes - Scriptwriter: Spoken word training company. Clients included Esso, BMW, Wella and Channel 4.


1994 - 1995 Futures Theatre Company - Writer/ Workshop Leader: TiE company working with young people between the ages of 11 -14. Developing and constructing touring production ‘Turning On’.

 
Personal Details:
Born in East London and then moving South, Darren attended Greenwich Young People's Theatre for several years, before becoming a professional actor and writer. Lately has taken an interest in his Anglo-Indian background with the plays WORLDS APART and KISS OF THE SUN. As well as writing, Darren has developed his teaching skills: running and devising workshops both freelance and with his company Spanner in the Works. He is now occasionally teaching where he started, at Greenwich Young People’s Theatre, and at Rose Bruford College.
